Panelists will discuss the in-house lawyer’s important role in identifying and eliminating unconscious bias within the law department organization, including internal initiatives (recruiting, retaining, mentoring) and outside service provider initiatives, including selection of outside counsel, to enhance diversity within the legal function and across the legal profession as a whole. We will provide information about unconscious bias training programs, identify key areas of unconscious bias, and provide strategies for in-house counsel to address unconscious bias. Unconscious bias can impact many legally protected groups, including gender, age, race, ethnicity, disabilities, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Corporate legal organizations must lead the way in identifying and eliminating unconscious bias from the practice of law. Learn strategies and initiatives of legal departments that are closing the disparity gap in the practice of law and making a difference.
